Decongestants are good to use as well as sore throat lozenges as the sinus draining doesn't feel good and is what irritates the throat during that. When you get a cold, it often seems the sense of taste is dulled as well as the sense of smell seems like it's "gone" until it all improves and things smell and/or taste as they should instead of seeming flavorless or close to bland then. The ears can feel plugged up or the hearing may seem muffled until this is properly treated if it lingers and spreads.
