Question: i was on the bus an hour ago and this old guy smiled, where i was soo stunned to find he had three teeth in his mouth which had turnt brown and looked half rotted away

im 23 at the mo and take very good care of my teeth

Probably, yes.

Age causes gum shrinkage - teeth may be good but they need support to stay in your mouth!

My grandma died at 82 with all of her own teeth.

Not necessarily

no, so long as you look after them

My Mom died at 77 with all but one of her own teeth!! I'm 52 and still have all of mine and planning to keep them too!

No regular checkups usually will see you right. though had a friend who did look after hers but got some kind of infection and nearly lost the lot and she wasn't very old.

47 now and lost all top teeth due to falling out.. Old age I suppose but can suck alot better now..

Usually but there are some exceptions to the norm good luck keep brushing.

My grandparent both had all of their teeth:

I think it has to do with the way you care for your teeth. Unlike other people their age, my grandparents adopted dental care and were very meticulous about going to the dentist. I have a friend who just turned 80 who has all of her teeth as well. They are in great condition.

So, have faith. As long as you care for your teeth, you'll be fine.

My father in law died 93 years of age with all of his own teeth bar three and although inevitably yellowed with age they were still all his own.

Look after them, eat a good varied diet and if you have something sweet such as fizzy drinks or sweeties/chocolate before going to bed clean your teeth.

No it is not inevitable, many elderly patients still have many of their own teeth. Eating little refined sugar and looking after them, together with good preventative dental care, will increase your chances.

No you won't loose your teeth in old age if you take every care now.

I am 52 and still have all my own teeth and my dentist says my skin will fall off before my teeth come out .think it was her way of saying they will last me a lifetime.
