Question: How Do You Know When You Need A Root Canal? I'm going to the dentist on Thursday... but I would like to have an idea of what could happen... considering finances and time restraints. I have heard that the ice test indicates a root canal... I've heard the heat test indicates root canal... I've heard that throbbing indicates root canal.... but I've also heard that if you feel things in this tooth, it is not abcessed... so does that mean you don't need a root canal?

You can have a whole range of symptoms meaning you need root canal. The main one is sensitivity to hot. If it's sensitive to hot but cold eases the apin, you definitely need root canal. throbbing doesn't always suggest inflammation of the nerve or infection.

I just had a root canal done a few hours ago and I found out I needed one due to throbbing and abcess tooth and I hated the throbbing obviously so I went to the dentist and took an x-ray and they said I needed one
