GumsproblemURGENT?!
Question: Okay so i got some spacers put in on the the twentieth and then i ate a gummy worm(bad idea i know) and it got the spacer sort of stuck and I thought I got it unstuck from my gum but now the gum has turned red and has swelled a bit and and grown over the tooth a tiny bit as well! My orthodontist and dentist are closed a long time and my mouth is really hurting and I think it might be infected! Any ideas?

CALL THEM! I'm hundreds of miles away from my office but i hvae my cell phone on constantly AND i have a very nice (jewish!) dentist covering for me over christmas!
they shoudl have a person covering or an emergency # to see you...
if you DONT (and if this is the case, find a new one! lol)... you can try to gently clean aroudn the spacer w/ a tooth pick...you should also have a threader to floss aroudn the braces; if you don't, buy a threader at a drug store and loop it UNDER the spacer use that to pull the floss through, and then clean around the spacer.
also, rinse w/ warm salt water. this will help the gums.

Between now and the time you see the orthodontist or dentist. Swish with hydrogen proxide and water or mouthwash (peroxide tasted horrible straight and can give you a chemical burn if used straight) mixed 50/50. This will help clear up the infection.
Shouldn't matter if both dentist offices are closed there should be an answering service to help you. Call the dentist number and explain your situation. In the meantime you could rinse your mouth with warm salt water.
An infection in your gums is very dangerous spot for an infection. If you truely feel it is infected you need to seek medical advise as soon as possible.
