When you have your wisdom teeth out sometimes the teeth are close to the nerve. If that is bumped during surgery then it will be numb/or have a tingle to it. Most times it is a temporary numb feeling that will go away with time. You will just have to tolerate it for now, but as soon as the office opens back up you need call them. They like to know this and they will monitor it as well. Best of luck!

no that isnt normal and you might want to go to the hospital and get that checked out

It is normal just wait it out and see what happens some people can take as long as 3 months to completely heal..

They probably did nerve damage during the procedure. Sue them. That will get there attention!

That doesn't sound normal. They might have messed up a small nerve. You should call your dentist/oral surgeon so that they can take a look once they re-open after the holidays. If it is a nerve sometimes they heal (although could take a while depending) and sometimes they don't. I hope it goes away for you!

I'm not sure if that is normal. I don't remember my lip being numb for very long. There is a possibility that there is nerve damage, but I wouldn't panic until you've talked to a doctor. it is also possible that the nerves are just a little confused or damaged and even though the medicine to make your mouth numb wore off, I read that your mouth might stay numb until the nerves heal.

It might be best to try to head for an ER if it's really bothering you. there are also nurses hot-lines that I think you can call on holidays. Try: 800-982-2401. A lot of doctors often have a hotline you can call in an emergency that will alert them that you need help.

I hope this helps!

This indicates damage to the nerve supplying your teeth.
There are 2 likely possibilities:
1. Direct damage by the needle striking the nerve bundle. Not surprising when you consider that we have to come very close to it to deposit the anaesthetic.
2. Indirect damage by the local anaesthetic (LA). All LA's are slightly toxic to the nerves, and the highewr the concentration of the LA solution, then the more likely you will experience some numbness afterwards. For example, the standard LA is 2% lidocaine, but there is increasing use of 4% articaine which creates more post-op numbness.
It is very unlikely that there is permanent nerve damage. The nerve to your teeth is well away from the area of surgery
(A numb tongue would be more serious, because this nerve is very close to the surgical area, and can be permanently damaged.)
So, this indicates only partial damage, and whatever the cause it should improve slowly over the next 2 weeks. Contact your dentist after the holidays if there has been no improvement.

This is a relatively common complication with wisdom tooth extractions. The nerve that supplies your lip oftentimes will run very close to the location of the wisdom teeth and it may get compressed during the surgery. Most of these cases will get better within about three months time. I would not worry about it, but I would let the oral surgeon or dentist who did the extractions know when they're back in their office. They may want to see you to evaluate the extent of the numbness on your lip. Best wishes.
