1. Any medicine will work, ibuprofen, advil, whatever you normally use to get rid of a headache, ect.

2. Getting the braces on doesn't hurt, but before you go to the orthodontist, take some pain medicine, so when your done it won't hurt as much, and it will start hurting your teeth after about a half hour or so, and it will be hard to eat. So its a good excuse to eat ice cream. :] And brushing your teeth after will hurt, but go to the store and look for a extra soft or soft toothbrush, it doesn't matter what kind, but after the first few days, you can use your regular toothbrush again. Keep the soft one on hand for when you get them tightened. Remember to angle your toothbrush so you're getting plaque out from between the brackets.
Good Luck!

Use the spacers they give you. Yes they hurt, but not as much as getting braces without them. Aspirin or such will work fine.

yeah, getting your braces doesn't hurt, but it does after. it took awhile for me to eat normally... but medicine, i think tylenol or some other pain reliever can help. i didn't actually think the medicine helped me much though. and well, you can basically use any toothbrush, and just brush softly. sometimes your orthodontist will give you things to help you keep your teeth clean.

but anything you do, it will kinda hurt anyway. just remember, you're going to have a nice smile when it's over.
