Wisdom tooth taking a slight detour?!

Question:

Wisdom tooth taking a slight detour?

Right, I went to the doctor today because I have this mysterious, very hard, totally painless lump on my bottom gum just below one of my molars. She said that she thinks it's a wisdom tooth trying to grow in the wrong place, and told me to go to the dentist's for an x-ray. Is this possible? Is she just sending me to the dentist's because she doesn't really know what's wrong with me and made the wisdom tooth theory up? Please help!

I thought I'd mention that one of my other wisdom teeth is in the middle of eruption, so I'm the right age and everything.

Answers:

No, that's completely possible. Often, wisdom teeth grow in all the wrong directions. Sometimes even back down into your jaw. Definitely go get the x-ray, because you probably need to have your wisdom teeth out. It's better to do it now than when the break the surface and cause problems.
