As for losing weight, I would second the notion of getting out there and running. I started running last July and lost a considerable amount of weight and I still run to this day.
It's something that takes quite a bit of work and the first two weeks will be painful and full of sore muscles and fatigue, but as you put each step forward you're going to be one step closer to your goal of either losing weight or toning up.
But eat six smaller, healthy meals per day rather than three bulky meals to keep your metabolism as high as possible which is crucial in an attempt to lose weight. Cut out fatty and fried foods gradually or you'll be prone to craving the foods more often that you suddenly cut out. Also, try to get rid of sodas and carbonated drinks as much as possible - those are the #1 thing to stay away from.
Also processed foods are filled with preservatives that elongate shelf life, but decrease human life and again gradually try to eliminate those from your diet.
You can do simple core exercises to help you become a better runner in your room, but if I were you I'd try running. I lost weight and gained a lifelong hobby from it.
