Is Ephedrine as effective as Ephedra and where can I purchase it?!

I think they are chemically very similar (read the wiki entry below). Isn't that stuff illegal because its dangerous?

ephedra extracts are direct from the ephedra plant. it is extracted from where the natural stimulant is. it is very effective, not as effective however as the actual ephedra if taken whole. ephedrine is basically the legal version, so no fun stuff there. don't exactly know the chemical make-up but is kind of a waste of money.
