Are my eating habits normal?!

Question: Are my eating habits normal?
I have certain food rituals. One is that whatever I eat can be no bigger than my fist and the rest of my meal can only be strictly made up of salad. I am not allowed any type of carbohydrate (except the occasional half a tortilla wrap, which has 60 cals). I must eat alone and concentrate entirely on my meal. I must slowly chew each eat bite (and a small bite) 20 times followed by 5 large sips of water. If I didn't chew right or got distracted I must have 10 sips of water. This leads to me feeling very full after even a small meal and not often not being abole to finish it or a meal of about 100 cals lasting me all day. I also feel very nauseous all the time and overwhelmed with guilt after each time I eat. Every bite fills me with grief. One calorie overboard or not following the ritual leads to purging as punishment and sometimes even laxative taking. I purge maybe 5-10 times a week and take laxatives about once.

Is this normal?

Answers:

No, you sound like a text book case of obsessive compulsive disorder. You can read more about it here:

This is the diagnostic criterea:

You really need to see a specialist about this, especially as it relates to food, and could also relate to Anorexia Nervosa:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorexia_ne…

Anorexia Nervosa is a clinical condition with physical and psychological symptoms. It isn't about starving yourself thin, but a collection of problems which become more and more severe if left untreated. Don't think that because you aren't starving yourself you don't have a problem, it's far more complex than just not eating, and some of the behaviours you describe are symptomatic of anorexia nervosa.

I cannot stress enough the importance of seeing a specialist about your behaviour. Failure to do so will very likely result in your conditioning worsening, which will lead to long term physical damage to your body, and even death.

I think you know that your eating behaviour is far from normal. Although that depends on where you live and who you mix with. In my world it is wholly abnormal but if you are a dancer or actor, then maybe not. You are borderline with your weight being just within the lower bounds of normal and healthy. A few pounds less and you would be quite badly underweight.

Sweetheart you have an eating disorder and need some psychological help.

See your doctor or school counsellor if still at school.

Good luck x

this is not normal and you seem to be heading towards anorexia

you will need to seek medical help beofre you get really ill

No they are not normal and its good you realise this now if I were you i would go to the doctors and get some advice before things get really out of hand!

No. I really don't think that what you're doing is normal. Try and speak to your doctor, he could help.

You may not be underweight at 99lbs, but 96 is DEFINITELY underweight. Trust me I have just checked your BMI. You need to be eating more than you are, I think you could be anorexic. How many calories in total do you have? You are borderline underweight, which isn't healthy you should be in the dead centre of the 'healthy weight' category, which is about 8 and a bit stone, where as you weigh seven stone. If this goes on please visit a doctor.

you can eat how much you like if you stay within these 3 guidelines and still lose fat naturally and gradually. You should lose 10lbs each month on average.

1.eat only steamed lean meats, eggs, healthy fruits ,vegetables, nuts, grains, & yogurt..2. drink only water, juice, & milk..3. walk or do some physical exercise 1-3 hour every day.

(btw, recommend you also to buy an electronic food steamer ((Very cheap)) and a rice cooker as makes it very easy to prepare healthy meals ,,add a bit of olive oil and pepper, spices on top of steamed vegeatables, fish or chicken to add more taste if wish as these are healthy too.)
