Is walking/hiking ok as my only form of exercise for the timebeing?!


Question: Is walking/hiking ok as my only form of exercise for the timebeing!?
due to a back injury, I can't go to the gym and I am a terrible swimmer so I don't enjoy it at all!.

Would going for long walks on hiking trails be sufficient for weight loss if done in conjunction to a low calorie diet!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, weight loss occurs as soon as you use more calories than you take in through food!. The only problem is that you are doing something that is low impact as far as the body is concerned!. It is used to walking and is geared up to do that!. It therefore is a less efficient way of using calories!.
Can you cyle!?
Rather than swim per say, is there an aqua aerobics class that you could get to!?
If walking is your only option you can increase the efficiency by:
Adding weight - carrying a rucksack with some bags of pasta/sugar etc in
- changing the terrain (over fields say or up and down hill)
- changing the speed of you walking ( try timing youself over a distance and then aim to do it quicker the next time)
- walking more - park the car in the furthest most parking spot away from the shops; buy a pedometer aiming to do at least 10,000 paces a day, walk to the shops if you intend to have only a little to carry back!.
-fill in time by pacing when you are making a coffee or during the advert breaks
- if you have a Wii do the balancing exercises if not too painful

I've lost 2st (28lbs) doing this and keeping to the diet!.
Other tips I've used: bulk meals out with no calorie/low calorie food like vegs, potatoes, rice, drink loads, but not with meals!. Take 20 mins to eat the main meal!. Have low cal veg soup before starting to prepare the main bit of meal!. Have veg soup for one of the meals with slice of wholemeal bread!. Prepare what you are going to eat and don't buy anything tempting that will sit in the cupboard and call to you at your weak times!. Don't go into the kitchen after you think you have finished eating for the day - whatever the reason you've gone there for you will open the fridge!

Atkins does recommend trying to vary the type of exercise you do!. I don't uphold his low-carb diet but he has some sensible ideas about using the calories!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes!. If you walk for 30 mins a day, 5 days a week, this will be beneficial for your health!.

Weight loss might be achieved with a more vigorous form of exercise like jogging, but only when your back is better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes! Hiking is an awesome form of exercise!. It's much better than regular walking!. I mean hiking like going out on a hiking trail going uphill and walking on rough terrain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
