Well I bet losing 2 stone seems impossible at the moment!.

It's difficult to give you a short and concise answer to your question, so I won't try!. Apologies for the length!.

A lot of people have lost 2 stone (and more than that in fact)!. What works for some won't work for others, but I would never suggest a fad diet (i!.e!. Atkins) as you can harm yourself with them!. Fad diets are not to be confused with clubs like Weightwatchers, which can be popular as they give you access to someone with expertise and advice!.

The thing you do need to understand from the off is that the ONLY thing that will make you lose weight (aside from chopping off a leg!) is to make the calories expended in exercise exceed what is going in as food!. Once you do that, you WILL start to lose weight!.

Cardiovascular (CV) exercise of a moderate intensity is the best way of burning fat!. 'Moderate' is defined as you being out of breath, and where holding a conversation at the same time is quite difficult (but not impossible)!. Expect to sweat!

Jogging, cycling, swimming, cross-country skiing, rowing are just a few of the good CV exercises!. Not all of them will appeal to you, but finding something you like is important as it will help you to stick at it!. For me, it was running!. I used to like it as a teenager but a spell in the army made me detest it!. In my quest to lose 3 stone 4 years ago, I couldn't run for more than two minutes (and then very slowly)!. Over time, that 2 minutes became 10, then 15, and a year later I ran a half marathon!. Four years later I am a veteran of 35 races and have some respectable times for a 38 year old man!.

If you're not a member of a gym then you might want to think about it!. Gym instructors (if they are any good) can tailor a programme of exercise specifically for you!. You'll also get access to group classes which can help with motivation if that is a problem!. The downside is the cost, though PruHealth (if you're in the UK) have an intriguing scheme which can make your gym cheap, or even free!. But be warned; if you stop going to a gym then the (typical) 12 month contract can make it an expensive mistake!. Some do have creches though, and that could be useful in doing a balancing act of exercise vs childcare!.

With food, you will probably eat a lot at the moment, or if not you're eating the 'wrong' things!. Food has several component groups, and you have probably heard the names already, but may not know what they do!. I'll try to run through them quickly!.

Carbohydrate (carbs) provide fuel to your body, and are split into sugars and starches!. Sugars give you an instant energy boost, whilst starches release energy slowly!. You are better off with the latter (particularly where exercise is concerned)!. Looking at the nutritional label on foodstuffs helps with identification as they will say something like "Carbohydrate 25g, of which 10g sugars"!.

Fats get bad press, but everyone needs some!. Any fats that are solid at room temperature (e!.g!. beefburgers, bacon, chocolate) have a very high calorie content and are best avoided!. If you like something with high fat (mine is parmasan cheese), have them as an occasional treat, just not all the time!. During my diet I used to pig out on KFC; it's just that I only did it every 6 months! 'Oily' fish (eg sardines) have a high fat content but this fat is not 'saturated' (the bad kind), and is instead a good source of protein!.

Protein is important in building and repairing the body!. With an exercise regime, that means that you need protein whilst you complete your transformation into Paula Radcliffe!.

Fibre is good for the digestive system, and fills you up (so stops making you feel so hungry)!. Fruit and veg are generally high in fibre, as is wholemeal bread!. Even though my period of dieting is now over, I tend to stick to fruit whilst at work!. Globalisation helps if you are an apple fan out of season!.

The food change needs to be a permanent change!. If you go back to your old ways then you will go back to your old weight!.

Finally, don't expect overnight results!. Aim to lose 1kg (2lbs) a week, which is considered a safe rate of weight loss!. Some weeks nothing will happen!. Be prepared for that and don't lose heart!. If the calories in are less than the calories out you will lose weight!.

Sorry again for the length, but I hope this is useful!.

The BBC site below gives more details on foods and healthy eating!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Make your first diet your last one!.

Develop healthy eating habits, and maintain them over your lifetime, and you'll never need another "diet"!.

Incorporate your exercise regimen into your daily routine, and stick with it!. When it is a part of your daily routine (difficult, but not impossible with four children) you will not only set yourself up for success, your children will learn your healthy habits from you, and they too will be healthy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Go to www!.calorieking!.com!.au if your in Australia or drop the au if your not, and set up a free profile!. Then all you have to do is stick in what you ate and what exercise you did and it counts the calories for you!. Easy As!

Building muscle ultimately helps maintain your ideal weight as you burn more fat as your body works harder to maintain the mass!.
try a routine of mixed cardio and weights, like a circut and keep track of your calorie intake for a while until you become familiar with what your eating!. That website should help, as it does everything for you!. Excluding the exercise unfortunately! Check it out!

Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Cardio, and crunches for excercise!.

oatmeal for breakfast
fruits and veggies for snacks all day
salad and soup, or salad and 1/2 sandwich for lunch
meat, rice, and veggies for dinner!. meat should be about the size of a deck of cards, rice and veggies should be 1/3-1/4 of the plate size!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
