How Long Will it Take Me to Lose Weight?!

Question:

How Long Will it Take Me to Lose Weight?

I'm a little taller than 5'6" and I weigh 180 pounds. I'm fifteen.

I'm running a mile everyday on the treadmill at 5mph speed. But I'm increasing the distance everyday by 0.1 mile. (I used to go on the treadmill a lot more, but I got tired and stopped. So I picked it back up this Wednesday) because if I increase by a lot at once I know I'm gonna quit. :/

How long it will take for me to see some difference? I want to lose thirty pounds (so that I'm "normal" on the BMI). I also take karate three times a week for an hour each.

How long will it take me to lose thirty pounds? Thanks!

Answers:

First of all, you are doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

This one is difficult to answer because there are so many factors. Diet, nutrition, genetics and excercise all figure into the equation. You have most definitely taken the first step.

I would recommend that you purchase a pedometer! I have an Omron and I love it. I have found that it helps me to stay motivated about excerise and diet by computing how much of my excercise is actually aerobic and how many calories I am burning. Mine cost $20 and was well worth it!

The other end of this is to take a close look at your portion size. Are you over doing it there? I was amazed when I saw what an actual portion size was. If you think you are eating more than recommended servings try to cut down. Try this... Fix your normal plate of food. Then remove half of your servings. This will automatically cut your caloric intake in half. Try using a salad plate for meals. Your plate looks full and you don't feel deprived!

Cut down on your sugar intake!!!!! Better and healthier yet, try not to eat it at all. Your body will always burn sugars before fat so by limiting your sugars- your body turns to your fat stores. I guarentee this works! I have done this and I felt so much better and lost weight more quickly than ever.

Eat 5- 6 small meals a day. Choose healthy snacks! Apples, nonfat Yogurt, veges. By eating 5- 6 small meals a day it will turn your bodies natural furnace on hence burning more fat!

You may actually notice changes in your clothing before you see actual pounds lost because you are also building muscle which in turns burns fat too! You are on your way to a healthier BMI! Best of luck to you! Keep your head up and continue with your excercise.
