My grandmother says I'm fat?!

Question:

My grandmother says I'm fat?

I don't understand. She just says out of the blue, "You need to go on a diet, you're fat". Now I feel really bad after I just got over that. So, I have a few questions.

Does the rubber band trick work? Where you snap the band on your wrist and you relate pain to food?

What's the normal weight for a thirteen year old?

I don't have a regular diet. I get full extremely easily. Is that normal and is it going to do anything to me?

Thanks for answering. I'm just really confused and I'm only 13. *ugh*

Answers:

Well, that's a horrible thing for your grandmother to say. Mine can be bad too only she tells me I'm too skinny when I'm a healthy weight , and makes fun of me for being a vegetarian. She thinks there is something wrong with me for not wanting to eat meat.

The rubber band trick is not a good idea. You shouldn't restrict yourself food or relate it too pain. That sounds like you'd be going on the path to an eating disorder.

At your age you need to remember that it's alright to have a little bit of extra weight and not be real skinny because before you grow your body store up a bit of weight. Not eating can impact on growing.

But you should take a good look at what your eating and if it's not healthy make the change to healthy food. Don't restrict yourself and get a bit of exercise each day. Too many people just eat junk food and you should be healthy to be healthy, not necessarily to be thin.
