What do you think--eating more "healthily" or portion control?!

Question: This isn't so much a question as much as it is a search for opinions supported by somewhat factual knowledge...

After reading many articles about healthy eating, losing weight, balanced diets, and everything else that is dicussed in that category, I've began to wonder something. I've been looking at a lot of recipes, both really heatlhy recipes with lean meats, veggies, and all of that, and then some other recipes that people consider "comfort foods" that contain things like cheese, the less healthy meats, etc. such as Mac and Cheese, Hamburgers, and those kind of foods. Surprisingly, the recipes for these foods have calorie counts around 300-400 for a serving size, which makes me wonder, is eating the correct portion size actually even more important that being very scrutinous about what you eat? I feel like if I kept to the necessary portions, but didn't eat just chicken and vegetables I'd still be quite ok. Any opinions/thoughts/facts on this thought?

I aim for portion control, mostly. I had Mac and Cheese last night, about half of a serving. I like food and don't want to live a life filled with only grilled fish and steamed vegetables. As long as you eat plenty of healthy things, there's definitely room for comfort foods in a normal diet.

I do better with portion control.

You have to do what works for you

Portion control works best for me. i'm a picky eater and portion control is much easier for me than the alternative.
