I want to lose 40 pounds. please tell me what i have to do for exercise and diet!

Question: The best thing to do is to start out gradually. If you suddenly switch to eating celery and cottage cheese, that's probably not a diet you're going to stay on. What's important is making a life style change. The first thing to do is to gauge your lifestyle now. You should take 2 days or so, and write down what you are actually eating. Most people are amazed at the times they put food in their mouths without thinking about it. After you have a typical list, start seeing things you can cut out, substitute, or change. For example, if you had fried chicken, try making it grilled or boiled, or get a lower fat milk. If you're like me and have a bit of a sweet tooth, I only buy one chocolate bar at a time, and only reward myself with small squares at the end of the day if I have been eating right and worked out. There are many websites like prevention.com, aol.com, etc, where you can look up diets and exercise, but for me personally, I prefer slow changes, so I know I can keep them.

Also, it's important to feel full. You don't want to be on a diet and be hungry all the time. What usually helps me is for breakfast, I'll either have an egg on toast (best soft boiled or in a nonstick pan) with a cup of tea or coffee. Sometimes I'll have an apple or a banana 15-30 minutes later. Another good and filling breakfast option is oatmeal. I usually add a handful of raisins, a dash of cinnamon, and a tablespoon of honey. It's delicious, full of fiber, and no sugar. As for other meals, I prefer to have a salad or watery soup before my main course, and I find that I eat less of that. It's important to have snacks in between meals, but those snacks should preferably be fruit or vegetables. It's also important to drink a lot of water.

As for exercise, just do more than you do now. If you don't do a lot of walking, that's a good start. It's important to do little things when you can like parking your car far far away in a parking lot, taking the stairs when you can, dancing when nobody's watching, etc.

You should set goals for yourself in increments (I do 5 pounds at a time), and every time I reach that goal, I do something nice for myself (like lingerie shopping! or making low fat banana bread to share with others while I have a slice). You can even buy something a size smaller and you can try it on every time you need to as a motivator. In time, being healthy will be a second nature. Good luck!

Eat less fat and sugar, and make sure you cut back on calories. For exercise, cardio is the way to go. (Dancing, Ballet, swimming, push ups, crunches...etc.) :-) Yoga is great too. Maybe try the gym.

take a fitness class of some sort. they're very helpful if you are lazy like me and don't like to count points! also just eat healthier non-fat foods! good luck!

Find something to make you forget about eating for a month.

Alas, what could be right for someone may not be right for you. Thus you must try different things, try lowering your daily caloric intake by 500 calories for a few week and 30 minutes of cardio every other day and see if that works, try that for a few weeks to see results. If not, you may need to see a personal trainer to determine what should be best for you.

well for one get off the computer and go outside and just walk around,

how old r u?

Eliminate Sugar and Starches.
Drink lots of water. When you are hungry, drink instead.
Do not eat breakfast but drink one of those slimfasts.
For lunch and dinner have whatever. But after you plate it, walk over to the trash and scrape 1/2 into the can. What remains is your meal. Still hungry? Pound down the water.
Finally, get out and do some walking.

You will be down 10lbs in your 1st week.

Good luck

Why do you want to lose that much weight? If you are 5'9" 160lbs, then if you lost 40lbs your weight would be 120 which would make your BMI 17.7 which is underweight. (BMI < 18.5 is underweight), I dont think you should lose weight, your BMI is 23.6 which is in the normal range.

Diet: do not eat any french fries,no butter,no white bred,
