I'm trying to eat bettter- any suggestions?!

Question: So, I'm from Texas, where we like everything fried, and I love sweets, but last week I decided that I have to eat better. I went on this big shopping spree getting different healthy foods, but I was having a hard time finding stuff that's REALLY good for you. I like the Kashi cereals, and I'm eating more salads.... but pretty much everything else is low in fat, but high in sodium, or low in sodium, but high in carbs....it sucks.

I don't know what to do-- I can't eat Kashi and salads for every meal!

So my questions: what are your favorite healthy foods? Any healthy foods that taste delish? Any tips for this reformed bad eater?

Just stick with it - and let yourself cheat once in awhile. I still have some chocolate or some jelly beans or something- just try to keep the calories you get from "treats" around 100 to 150 - and don't let yourself do it every day.

I, too, and a reformed eater and it really isn't easy! Just experiment with foods you like. I like to make brown fried rice- I cook brown rice in a rice maker, put some olive oil in a frying pan or wok, throw in a bunch of vegetables (whatever you like, I usually use some peas, some red peppers, onion-for flavor, broccoli...whatever I have lying around the house) and either some sliced chicken breast (you can cook them right in the wok with the vegetables) or some shrimp. Throw in some seasonings and some low sodium soy sauce, toss in the rice and mix it all together and you are good to go! I usually add in a little egg white for my fiance so it has a more authentic "fried rice" feel.

Other than that, experiment with vegetables. I love to just season and grill up some chicken on the George Foreman and roast some asparagus (SO easy...just clean and trim the root end of the asparagus, put a little olive oil on it and then sprinkle it with salt and pepper - sea salt and fresh ground pepper are best - make sure the asparagus is evenly coated with the oil and seasoning, put it on a cookie sheet in the oven for 10 minutes at 450 degrees Fahrenheit and you are good to go!) and make that my meal.

Feel free to message me if you want more recipes or have some to share- I'm always looking for new ideas! princess.peach82@yahoo.com
