Is this too underweight?!

Question: So, I'm a 22 year old woman, 5'7 and 105lbs, BMI=16.4. Which apparently is "severely underweight" or something to that effect. And people (parents, doctors) always tell me I should "gain weight," etc. The thing is, I can't find any specific reasons that being underweight would be bad aside from malnutrition. And this weight is completely natural for me; My bones don't stick out, I eat when I'm hungry and I don't restrict my food or anything (I clearly don't need to...). So, is there any reason that being underweight is bad aside from malnurishment and other eating-disorder related issues? Also, I've never had issues with not having periods (well I'm on the pill, and they come whenever they're supposed to), is that a good indication that this weight is not unhealthy for me?

And furthermore, wouldn't deliberately gaining weight be even more unhealthy? I mean, I eat normally, so what would I do, eat McDonald's everday like in Super Size Me? Would that seriously be healthier?

It sounds like you are naturally thin so you probably are not malnutritioned. You must have a high metabolism, huh? You don't need to gain weight it sounds like. Eating mcdonalds would not be healthy. Doctors might be suspicious of an eating disorder. People can hide eating disorders. Though I think it would show up in a blood test or some thing. I think you are fine and don't need to to what is not natural to you.

u think u got a bad bmi, im 14 and mine is 15.4

I am 19 and exactly the same as you, weight and height. I've been this way for a while, and been through a lot of crap, which I'm sure you have as well. We are naturally thin! I've learned to live with it, and you will too eventually. Don't try to change yourself, just let it be!

Good luck =]

I think you sound pretty near perfect.

If you feel healthy than you are. I am now 41years old.
I used to get the same thing at your age 5'8 108 pounds
I was not skinny, I ate when I was hungry, etc. I was as, fit
Lean. Eat healthy foods , stay active and just know you are not under weight "screw the chart' that everyone goes by.
YOU are healthy and we fill out when we fill out.
I am now alittle over 5'8 and 130lbs, a mom of an 11 year old daughter, 41years old and get carded by 19 year olds.
enjoy being LEAN, healty and you are not underweight if you feel natural at that weight. No do not go eat fast foods and supersize anything. Enjoy being a lean, mean, fighting machine.

sounds ok to me
