Hi, I am an Ex-Bodybuilder and I have studied Bodybuilding for many years.

If you stop Bodybuilding, the muscles won't become fat!
But:
Your muscle mass will decrease by time.
and yes, you can get fat.

and it depends on several things:

*** 1- Supplements:
If you take supplements, they stay in your body for several months, so if you take supplements, even if you stop exercising, they still continue to work in your body. and can make you fat after.
You shall stop using supplements (not Vitamins) at least 3 months before leaving Bodybuilding.

*** 2- Food:
If you have worked several months, you will get use to eat more. so If you Stop Exercising suddenly, it will take time before your body gets back (mentaly) and you eat less.

*** 3- stomac size:
If you eat more, the size of your stomach will increase and you will need to eat more. So If you Stop Exercising suddenly, it will take time before your stomach size gets back and you eat less.

*** 4-Your Brain:
Your Brain does not know, you are doing Sport or working hard. what your brain realize is that you are in a difficult situation. so your body will gain fat, to be ready to burn it when you need it.

***My Recommendation:
Do Sport, and Specially Bodybuilding. but follow a good program to start, a good program for each level of your process. and SPECIALLY use a good Program to leave bodybuilding. (ask your personal trainer) Remember that if you decide to leave bodybuilding, you will have to continue at least 3 more months. Do not use any kind of supplements. (but you can use Vitamins and minerals). try to gain Proteins from natural foods. Don't eat too much. try to eat more times, but less each time. follow a good diet (during sport and at least 6 months after leaving Sport). Do not leave any Sport, Specially budybuilding suddenly. try to decrease it little by little.

You will be surprised!
You will never become fat.
Your body will maintain the shape and the Style of your body for several years...

God bless you all

It can once you stop working out.

How long have you been lifting weights? You have to do it for a long time to gain muscle, it's not a one day thing.

NO don't believe that kind of stuff...

no...only if you eat the same proportions it took yor muscles to develop.

Muscle does not turn into fat..ever!

no i worked out for about a year and then havent for 2 months and i have lost 10 pounds.

The muscle all stays there, but the fat makes it seem like there is no muscle at all, so keep exercising at a daily basis. Hope I helped. =)

No not necessarily. Fat would only replace it if you weren't eating healthily.

no. They are completely different cells. The reason people think this is because when the muscles go away it is because you stop using them. When people get lazy, they stop exercising and gain fat/lose muscle. Just do cardio if you want to let the muscles fade but keep your fat levels down/

Muscle and adipose are two totally different tissues (chemically, structurally, functionally). They cannot physiologically replace one another. Fat deposits will grow on top of the muscle, but you never have to worry about one turning into the other.

No 100% NO. That is an urban myth, but this is where it comes from. Most people who put on muscle have to eat more to put it one. Muscle burns calories fast, so you can eat a lot more. Stop working out but keep eating the same, and the muscle atrophies, but the fat 'seems' to replace it. Actually there are two different processes going on. But people who have trouble putting on the muscle, who are naturally skinny, if they stop working out and don't continue eating a lot more, will just get skinny again, not fat.

Muscle cells are muscle cells, fat cells are fat cells. Muscle cells can't turn into fat cells. If you stop working out, muscle can diminish rapidly. If you eat at the same volume or increase the amount of calories consumed, your body will rapidly stuff those extra calories into your fat cells.
