Chest pain while running?!

Question: I'm an 18 year old, 6' tall, male college freshman. I recently decided to lose weight and start maintaining a healthy lifestyle. At my peak (Christmas' 07) I was 257 lbs. Today I'm at 230. I go for an hour long walk every day at my school's Athletic Center, followed by some light lifting. Today I decided to ramp up my routine, and after 30 minutes of walking, I started jogging. I wanted to see if I could make it one mile without stopping. I made it (for the first time since 2003). About halfway through, however, I had a sharp pain in the left side of my chest (near my heart). Is this something I should be concerned about? I'd like to continue running as a part of my routine, but I don't want to if it will jeopardize my health.

(I've been overweight for about 8 years)

im getting one on the 7th. so good luck.
i would get one to be safe. my doc. wont let me to sports if i dont get one!

Sage advice for you

In the process of dramatic body changes you should always consult a medical professional.

Trying to become healthy can kill you if done wrong.

Remember your heart is a muscle. Think about this when working out.

If you have pains in this muscle it can go very wrong. A cramp in your leg hurts, but a cramp in your heart.... ouch
