hey i started pilates when i was 14, in the hope that i would get more flexible and a flat tummy!!!! It works... don't be nervous about going... take a water bottle for when you finish and depends on what floor you are doing it on but take a towel (beach towel) just in case you are on a harder floor.

Relax, when you are there it is great fun and a real workout!!!! just remember to breath plenty during the session and to try your hardest but don't push yourself to far or you may end up with an injury!!!!!

The class is about stretching and focuses on inner strength and core muscles... it is a good idea to stretch lightly before you enter the class!!! If you are unsure get the teacher to explain to you what you will be doing and what each stretch does to each muscle that way you can focus on different points.... Also yoga and tai chi are also really good fun and they help you to relax and they work on flexibility as well.. so if you don't like the pilates there are plenty more options!!!

Good luck!!!! have fun!!!

Make sure you wear something comfortable and that stretches. I recomend you bring along a pilates mat if they aren't supplied. you can get these quite cheap from your usual sport stores. Don't forget a drink bottle.

Its like doing a workout version of yoga. You're going to like it a lot.If you want best results constantly remind yourself to flex your abs so your belly button is close to the spine. You should bring your own yoga mat and use one of theirs underneath(for sanitary and comfort purposes) Make sure your feet are clean because they make you take off your shoes and socks. And bring a bottle of water with you. Thats pretty much all you need to know have fun!!!

All you have to bring is an open mind! :)

It depends on what kind of machine your instructor's training you on (or if you're just doing mat pilates), but whatever the sitch, just do your best to go with the flow... It's gonna feel awkward at first; you're going to be put into different positions and work isolated muscles in repetitions. Some of the exercises will start off feeling easy, but after about a 45 seconds you'll be crying for mercy! Haha... But don't worry about it -- if your instructor is well-trained they'll be able to correct you (nicely) if you're doing something incorrectly, and they'll positively point out when you have good form. The more you go, the easier it will get!

Some instructors ask you to being a small workout towel, so you may want to consider that... And most classes that I've seen are done barefoot or with slip on dance/yoga shoes (like jazz boots). A bottle of water will serve you well.

Have fun and good luck!
