Question: Is it just me or doesnt any one else feel that the BMI is one of the most worthless numbers when figureing out if some one is fat.
I read all these questions on Answers "Am i fat?" and some one is like "Well according to your BMI you are"
Lets look at this the BMI takes into account 2 varibles
1) weight
2) hight
for me i was 5'8 185, according to my BMI i was fat. But according to my body fat % it was around 12 which is the low end of normal and i had a lot of muscle.
So is it just me or does any one else think the BMI is worthless? Agree or disagree? explain

For the average, sedentary person it can be helpful. For anyone with a decent amount of muscle mass though, it's virtually useless.
don't even bother with the BMI....according to that, no1 is normal. It doesn't work for kids, athletes, or old people. If you work out regularly and are a good size, just use your body fat percentage...
Like most body measurements, the BMI is a bit controversial. If I said your blood pressure was high, the term high is just a statistical correlation for you blood pressure to the average. Most people that have a lot of muscle, which weights a great deal more than fat, have a skewed BMI. BMI is a blunt instrument for sure, but it's better and easier to use than any other. And let's face it, most people are not covered in muscle.
