Whys it good to drink cranberry juice when you have cystitus?!

Question: There is some evidence that cranberry juice is useful for preventing cystitis and possibly also treating an attack.

A study of 150 female students showed that a daily drink of concentrated cranberry juice reduced the likelihood of bacterial cystitis by 20%, so it is good for prevention. Some studies have shown that cranberry juice will shorten an attack of cystitis, while other studies have shown no effect.

Cranberry juice contains proanthocyanidin chemicals, which prevent Escherichia coli bacteria from sticking to the wall of the bladder and urethra. Therefore they can be flushed out before establishing an infection. The effect of cranberry juice lasts only about 10 hours, so it should be taken twice a day. Researchers have now found that blueberries also contain proanthocyanidins. Apart from their benefits in cystitis, blueberries and cranberry juice are good sources of vitamin C and antioxidants.

Make sure you have paracetamol, long-life cranberry juice, potassium citrate cystitis remedy ( available from pharmacists). Hot water bottles help also. Wrap then inb a towel and put one on your back and one between your legs, close to the opening of the urethra (pee hole).

60% of attacks of bacterial cystitis cure themselves within 4 days without antibiotics. The other 40% do not. Then antibiotics are needed to clear the infection.

Cleans out the tubes, bit like Mr Muscle pipe and drain

it's an alkaline which eliminates the acid.

I recall reading that something in its composition helps the bladder wall to cells, and that infections can not "hold on" there because of this.

yes of course. the way i do it - is NOT to buy the already made juice, since it contains unnecsaary sugars/sweetners.

for pure juice - get a bag of cranberries boil with water, strain, then dilute the juice w/ water when u wanna drink it.

Cranberry juice makes your urine more acidic and the bacteria can't live in an acidic environment as well as they can in our normal bodies.

Good for the bladder and flushes out the nidneys.......

Cranberry is diuretic so it helps to flush you out. Green tea has a similar beneficial effect.

I heard it alleviates troubles with periods, like pain. Just try it. I have never actually tried it.

Dunno about cranberry but I've always tried lemon barley water. Really though, the best thing to do is to take loads of water and take some with some bicarboate of soda.

Cranberry juice contains chemicals which inhibit the activity of E. coli - the bacteria most often responsible for cystitis. The chemicals (condensed tannins or proanthocyanidins) stop the bacteria sticking to mucosal surfaces lining the bladder and gut. This helps to clear bacteria from the urinary tract and recent research shows these may be the most important effect of cranberry juice. The chemicals in cranberry juice may have this effect on other bacteria too; it's now being recommended as a way to reduce the risk of dental decay and stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter Pylori. (To get the best effect you need a lot of cranberry, which means drinking a juice with a high concentration of cranberries {more than 50 per cent - most commercial brands are only half this strength} or drinking large amounts of weaker juice). It's also worth noting that cranberry juice acidifies the urine, so regular intake could also prevent the formation of kidney and bladder stones.

because it contains all the natural cleaning agents are body needs. also pomegranates are a very good de toxin agent

There is a compound in cranberry juice which inhibits the binding of bacteria to the walls of the bladder and urinary tract. Its good to drink regularly to prevent infections, but wont necessarily help an infection.

Contrary to what someone above said, cranberry juice is actually acidic, not alkali, so drinking it while you have an infection may actually increase discomfort (but diluting it with water may help).

it's got a lot of vitamin c in.
