what happens when you only take half of the perscription for an ear infection?!
Question: What happens when you only take half of the perscription for an ear infection?
Answers:
Antibiotics do not work on viruses. So if what you had was viral then the antibiotics were doing nothing anyways. So now that you are well just forget about it. There is nothing to do.
Not taking your whole course of antibiotics can lead to the bacteria in your body getting used to the drug and becoming immune to it. Then the bacteria can change into the super-bug that your mom was referring to. But this only applies to bacterial infection and illness.
I was a microbiologist--lab researcher for years.
You really should finish the course of antibiotics that your doctor gave you. It would make sure to eradicate the germs that are causing your symptoms. It isn't the end of the world either that you can't get to your antibiotics for now. If the symptoms reappear, then go back to or call your doc. He can even call in another prescription for you.
One thing I can say is that you should be taking all the prescription because that is what the doctor ordered and if your not the doctor than you shouldn't be doing that for your on health good luck. \(^.^)/
