That would be a symptom of type 1, but you'd have other dramatic stuff going on as well - you'd be very ill and suffer from nausea and vomiting and be urinating a lot.
Type 2, that wouldn't be a symptom.
However, having a hard time gaining weight could also be a metabolic disorder. or could be nothing at all.
Everyone is different. Some people gain weight before they're diagnosed or treated, and some lose weight. You have to talk to a doctor and a nutritionist to treat diabetes properly.
