I have the flu, why does my breath smell like raw oysters?!
Question: I have the flu, why does my breath smell like raw oysters?
I have the flu (type A). I've already experienced the high fever, chills, headache, etc. But now my chest feels... yucky to say the least (actually this was my first symptom). When I cough, not only does it hurt, but my breath smells terrible, sort of like raw oysters or a type of metal. My son had the flu first but had no coughing or chest problems. I don't smoke (I haven't smoked in more than a year). Is this a normal flu symptom?
Answers:
Bad breath is normal for people with respiratory conditions or infections. A little extra tongue cleaning and mouth wash should cover it temporarily.
Flu is an upper respiratory infection. You can't expect your breath to smell like roses when you have a respiratory infection. Bad breath is normal and expected with a respiratory infection.
I'm a nurse.
Your tonsils are inflamed and produce bial among other toxins from your body creating a bad smell on your breath.
