Oral antibiotics might help, usually flucloxicillin is used, however if your toenail looks anything like that one it may require at least a wedge resection. Get your GP to look at it.

GP for more years than I care to remember

You need to take care of the wound, before you could cut the nail inside. Cleaning and putting some betadine would hasten the healing of your would. Once it is healed you could cut the toenail. However there would be another wound opened by the time you cut the ingrown nail.

i used to suffer with ingrowing toenails, i cut down the sides oft he toe nail, and remove the nail "walls". as for the infection, local chemists sell all sorts of potions to put on them to take the smell and yellow away.

You should definitely see a doctor. It looks really bad and it is very likely to become worse if you don't get the right treatment.

dont rip it off. it works but you wont be able to put full pressure on the foot for a few days.

go to a doc.

You need to go to the doctor and get it cut out or it's just going to get worse.

pedicures helped relieve my ingrown toenails.

Well.. the ultimate way to treat it so there there will be no future infection.. pair of pliers!
