People don't think too much about water. It isn't a drug, and it has no nutritional content - so they think they can do without it. Even doctors think this way - this is why they push their "drink plenty of fluids" campaign. But "fluids" like soft drinks, coffee, energy drinks and other water substitutes act like diuretics that pull out as much as 50% more water than they contain. This leads to dehydration and the problems associated with it.

Water is the second most important nutrient that the body needs to sustain life. Between water and salt (the third most important nutrient), they make up 75% of the tissues in the body, 85% of the brain and 94% of the blood.

Water and salt are vital for many functions in the body. One is to deliver nutrients to all of the cells and remove and dispose of the toxins from the cells. Without adequate water, the cells malfunction and result in disease - like low blood pressure.

Actually, low (and the more familiar high) blood pressure isn't a "disease" - it's a symptom of dehydration. It's telling you that you need to drink more water.

When you get dehydrated the body may borrow water from the blood to inject into the cells. When it does, the arteries constrict as the water is removed, causing high blood pressure. Low blood pressure happens the same way, only the arteries don't constrict and so adequate blood pressure can't be built up in the void areas in the arteries.

The answer in both cases is to increase your water and salt intake so that the cells have the water they need and the body won't need to borrow water from the blood.

Low blood pressure treatment is typically directed towards the underlying cause of the condition, and treatment directed towards blood pressure may not always be necessary. Low blood pressure treatment is generally based on the causes and may involve the use of both medications and home treatments like food and diet measures. Blood pressure does tend to fall because of dehydration, illness or blood loss, which is why recuperation and rehydration with oral rehydration solutions is advised. Home remedies for low blood pressure would for the most part constitute dietary measures, but the most important safeguard against low blood pressure is to keep yourself well hydrated. Treating low blood pressure with medications is not always advisable, as would be the case for low blood pressure during pregnancy, because of the inherent dangers.
