I poked my hand with a retail tag puncher needle. Should I worry?!

Question:

I poked my hand with a retail tag puncher needle. Should I worry?

You know those needles on tag punchers? I threw the puncher into the air and caught it but just kinda stabbed my hand with the needle. The lable on the side says that life threatening diseases can be transmitted by poking oneself with said needle. Ive worked retail for awhile and find it ridiculious a common item could do such damage, but I did poke myself fairly deep....should I have anything to worry about?

I told my manager, she said it wasnt a problem (typical retail).

I also did wash my hands, but I dont think I used soap.

I am scheduling a doctor appointment this week. Thank you all for your replys, Im much more worried now but also much more informed.

Answers:

I have no idea how long ago the injury occurred but I hope you washed your hands. See your doctor who can advise you as the best course of action, a tetanus booster or something more. Why would you find it ridiculous that a life-threatening disease could be transmitted by an unsterile, contaminated metal object that has come into contact with who knows what, who knows how many times???
