Question:
Help, I have poison ivy and it is so itchy I can't take it!!!?
What do I do so I can relieve this itchiness? I already tried calamine lotion, it's still itchy. Also I got another rash on my face, it's not itchy but could it be related?
Answers:
I had poison ivy last week!!! It's awful! I was exposed to poison ivy (and didn't know it) on a Monday afternoon, and then next morning I could feel a few small red bumps on my chin. I thought it was just a skin reaction, bug bites or zits. The next morning I woke up with it all over my face, (especially on my chin and lips). I went to the dr and got a shot of a steroid (pregnizone) and a prescription for it. Unfortunately, that didn't help too much. It began to spread to my hands, arms, legs and stomach. I was miserable. I bought ivydry, caltaid, Zanfel, calamine lotion.... I also used an ice pack, which made it feel better. The Zanfel would seem to work a little- it would relieve the itch and start to heal the area- but it just kept spreading. With Zanfel costing $40 a small tube, and the poison ivy getting worse, I went back to the dr. I told him all I had been doing (even changing sheets everyday and that kind of stuff) and he said I have a bad case of it and he was going to give me another shot of a different steroid. That night, I felt a huge difference! The itching had almost completely stopped and I was able to sleep through the night. It is now 2 days later and the poison ivy is just about gone.
If your poison ivy is spreading and really uncomfortable, I recommend going to the dr. If I hadn't done that a few days ago, I would still be in agony. Good luck!
