Just found out I have HPV...now i have questions?!

Question:

Just found out I have HPV...now i have questions?

First off, they said they either saw abnormal cells during my pap or else they will be looking for abnormal cells at my next re-examination, 2 wks from now. can someone please explain what this means, how worried i should be about the chance of this developing into cancer, etc? i have no visible signs / symptoms and have never tested positive or had an abnormal pap before.

Second, last year, my husband had warts on his genital area. he went to the dr. his dr visually inspected him, saying it was nothing. but he was worried and went back (twice) until they finally froze one of the warts off for testing, to be sure it wasn't cancerous or HPV. they told him it was all benign, nothing to worry about. he still has some, that have shown n up / not gone away. should he be concerned, now that i have it?

also, can we pass i pass it to him if he does not have it, after i am treated? we both understand that it can lay quiet for years and are not concerned about 'who had it first.'

Answers:

Don't worry about it too much. Abnormal cells are found all the time and don't necessarily mean that they are cancerous or will result in anything more than something benign. If the doctor says that your husband has benign growths on his privates then that is what it is...benign. Nothing to worry about and you probably didn't get this from your husband. As you grow cells tend to do funny things. You don't need to worry until they tell you to worry. Sounds to me like you guys are over thinking all of this. Just think of it as a wart on your hand exept it is on your privates. Until the doctor does a biopsy and culture there is really no need to be overly worried.
