Does a polyp mean cancer?!

Question:

Does a polyp mean cancer?

My daughter has polyp in her esophagus, they took it off and sent it to the lab. She as GERD, she is 2yrs. old. It was small, but still worries me. She has so much other medical issues going on, like a complex congenital heart defects, GI defects, no spleen, asperates, chronic lung disease, ect... Any info would be very helpful, thanks.

Answers:

i'm pretty that polyps are kind of growths and they can sometimes lead to cancer. But i've only heard of them in the colon. Esophageal polyps are a lot less common and i would think since she has GERD it's from that.

They sent the polyp to the lab so they're finding out exactly what it is, cancer or benign, or what. They should tell you what it is and what to expect.

that's what it looks like. and they said on that site that they infrequently occur in the esophagus. They sent that one to the lab (to pathology, they say) and it was found to be not malignant.

Don't worry too much about it, the doctors have removed it and they can take care of her medically while you take care of her with love.

*EDIT* here is another link that has more info... the home site is about reflux..
