husbans is 50 yrs old man who still smoks but takes his meds?
i do not want to be a widow
we are so inlove 18 yrs married
he has had it for 2 yrs now that we know of how much longer dose he have? docs wont talk about this with us so we are left in the dark
all thay say is he is going to die young and even younger if he dont stop smoking

As COPD and Emphysema are chronic conditions that can be managed, how long he has really depends on him. He should definitely stop smoking, if only for YOU - your question just about broke my heart!! You sound like you really, really love him and are just resigned to losing him, which is so sad. I wish he could read what you wrote - it may be just the thing to get him to try quitting. The "O" in COPD is for Obstructive, and he's not giving the meds a chance to clear the obstruction by narrowing his airways with smoke. Also, have him increase his water intake, to keep the airways moist, and look for other ways to ensure that the air is as clean as possible for him - ionizers, plants, etc. Look into natural, holistic alternative treatments - Dr. Weil has a wonderful site that you can reference. I hope he gives quitting a chance; you're in my thoughts.
