Diabetes and loss of feeling?!
Question: Diabetes and loss of feeling!?
My 17 year old niece is a non insulin dependent type 2 diabetic!. Her sugars have been well controlled since her diagnosis 2 years ago, but for the past 2 months, they have been very high, almost consistently over 300 (they are normally in the low hundreds)!. She was hospitalized and given insulin there, but her endocrinologist won't see her because he feels that it isn't an emergency visit and to get an appointment with another doctor will take at least a month!. I myself am a diabetic as well and know the dangers of the disease!. Her A1C levels are 14!.6, which is very high! She is now complaining of not having feeling in her hands and feet sometimes!.
I am very worried for her!. Is the loosing of feeling closely related to the diabetes!? Should I be rushing her to the hospital!?
BTW: She is under constant care by her pediatrician, but he doesn't have the resources to help her in the way that she needs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Find another Pediatrician!. The Hgb A1c, is way too high!. Her Pediatrician should be able to get her into an Endocrinologist ASAP!.
The loss of feeling is called peripheral neuropathy and is related to the diabetes!. There can also be other complications if this is left untreated too long!. I am a nurse, not a Doctor, and I know this needs to be treated!. Is she on oral diabetic medications!?

Her doctor is incompetent!. She needs prescription of Amryl to increase production of insulin!.Also up her metformin to 3000 mg a day!. Thats why I don't live in the USA!. I live in thailand !. When I need to see a doctor , I see one that day!. My hba1c is 5!.6!. Fasting about 95!. Never had numbers like that when I lived in America, the land of idiot doctors!.
Good luck mom!. Got the guts to change doctors!. And your kid is probably cheating on her diet!. Exercise!. Protien and veggies!. Follow a Glycimic diet!.!.!. By the way the doctor probably won't see her because your daughter does not listen to him! Period
