Answers:
A heart murmur is an extra or unusual sound heard during a heartbeat!. It is detected by using a stethoscope to listen to your heart!. There are several potential causes for this!. An echocardiogram, or ultrasound of the heart, would be required to further diagnose what is causing the murmur!.
Based on your comments in the question, one potential cause could be a leaky or prolapsed valve!. This means that a valve in your heart doesn't close completely and allows back flow of blood causing a swishing sound (the murmur)!. Many people have this and complain of palpitations!.
You doctor is best to determine what, if anything, needs to be done to further examine your problem!. If the palpitations continue or get worse, it may be a good idea to wear a heart monitor to be sure that there isn't anything serious!.
At this point, I think it is good that you are not stressed over the issues!. Stress can aggravate the palpitations as suggested in other answers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This site is not really the place to bring health problems, but I have experience with these things, When in the army I was diagnosed with a heart murmur and the flight surgeon said it's nothing serious!. It turned out not to be, as he said!. I also had heart palpitations; they are called tachycardias and they are the result of anxiety coupled with poor health!. Not that I had any diseases, but that I was overweight and seriously out of shape!. Nothing changed until I started an exercise program which consisted of weight training and bicycling!. I trimmed down, got better circulation, more strength and endurance, and have had no problems in the past thirty years!. Today I am 6'2" weigh 215 lbs!. and am in perfect health!. I ride a bicycle 300 to 400 miles a month and work out at a gym twice a week!.

George R gave you a great answer!. Heart Murmur is a blanket term for an usual sound that has not been diagnosed as any specific problem!. If you have other risk factors (smoking, overweight, etc!.) then your doctor should perform some other standard testing to ensure that it is not to worry about!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
