Doctor told me I was depressed and I disagree with his diagnosis? Anybody have a!
Question: Doctor told me I was depressed and I disagree with his diagnosis!? Anybody have any suggestions!?
I went to the doctor today b/c I have been experiencing palpitations, shortness of breath, tiredness, lethargy, and weakness!. I went to my regular doc thinking he would do some blood tests!. He did and he will get back results in 5 days, but his feelings were that I am clinically depressed and he seemingly diagnosed me with this in less than 2 minutes!. What a joke! Anybody had a doc suggest you were depressed before they even looked at you, especially if you are a woman!. I almost hope something does come back on my blood test (not really) just to tell him "I told you so!." Also, anybody know what I could have besides depression or the flu or a virus!? I am thinking maybe I might have problems with my thyroid, low blood sugar, or anemia as possible causes, but I don't think that I am depressed!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'd go for a second opinion myself!. Your symptoms are not inconsistent with depression, but depression doesn't account for all of them!.
There are various questionnaires available online, I think, that you can take and get a good feel for whether you are at risk of depression!. Nearly everyone goes through a depressed period in their life!.
The palpitations, shortness of breath and weakness don't seem like they are related to depression in my mind!. So I would be surprised!. Too often doctors are so busy they don't take the time to do a thoughtful analysis and instead will pigeonhole you into a convenient diagnosis!.
And if you don't think you are depressed, you are almost certainly not!.
Best of luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most intelligent M!.Ds will not presume patient's diagnosis that quickly!. As you mentioned it could be a thyroid, or over fatigued!.!.!.
Even a psychiatrist will not assume that fast, IMO!.
Yes, wait for the bl!. test result!. In the meantime, relax your mind & body and try to infuse your mind with pleasant thoughts!. I do hope it's not a serious problem!. You can always go for a second opinion!. Trust between a MD & patient is essential on patient's healing process!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am in the same boat, doctors nowadays stink and think everything is stress and depression related, I even had a blood test that went against something my doctor wanted to do and sure enough I was right and he was wrongWww@Answer-Health@Com
I'd wait for the results of the tests and see what they show!. If you're not satisfied with his diagnosis, get another opinion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
