I think I am allergic to my cats?!

Question:

I think I am allergic to my cats?

When I was a baby my grandma use to tell me that when ever a cat would come by me that I would get this fever or something. and so then about 2 years ago I rescued a kitty from the country and still have her. My allergies to cats never bothered me. but then about a month ago I took in this stray cat and adopted it. I already got it's shots and all. but ever since I have had that cat in my house, with both cats, I have felt like I am running a fever. Like for example: I have my a/c on like 50 and it still feels like the a/c is on like 80 or something.

Please help me. could this be an allergic reaction to both my kitties? What can I do to help it with out having to get rid of them? I dont want to get rid of them. I love my kitties. They are like my children. What should I do? should I go to my doctor and she what she says?

Answers:

See your doctor or an allergist to get tested and make sure you really are indeed allergic to the kitties. If you are, as others suggested, maybe you could try shots and/or medications. You can also try regularly brushing your kitties and vacuuming with a HEPA filtered vacuum. You could also try an air purifier in your home, or even just your bedroom - I had a roommate once who was allergic to cats - she kept an air purifier in her bedroom and she was never bothered by the cats in there at all (I had one cat and another roommate had one as well).

BTW - bless you for rescuing and taking in the poor kitties!
