Difference between mouth swab and papsmear?!

Question: Difference between mouth swab and papsmear!?
Okay everytime I went for a papsmear, my results come back normal along with negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea!. Does this mean I don't need a mouth swab for chlamydia and gonorrhea, syphilis!? (I have unprotected oral sex often)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi there,
First of all a Pap smear is to detect unusual cells on the Cervix!. Generally they are looking for cancer or precancer cells!.

A mouth swab is not the same as a pap smear, they are looking for bacteria and they can culture the smear from your throat to see if you have a specific bacteria and what will kill that bacteria!.

You need to get an annual pap smear!.
At that time your GYN may also take a culture of the vaginal secretions to determine if you have any infections!. However they do not always do that culture test and if you are at risk (meaning you have had unprotected sex) you should have the culture done also!.

If you have nothing wrong with your throat you should not be having a throat culture taken!. Ask your doctor what they are testing for!. As a consumer you have the right to refuse a test if you feel it is unnecessary!.

Hope that helps!.

syphilis didn't show on the swab, you need blood test for 4!. need times ask they to have a blood test for all of the sexual transmitted disease, why not do everything at once to clear everything out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
