Mike: Do you know what it is that your son is allergic to!? If his allergies are seasonal, then he only should take medication during that season!. If his allergies are year around from the indoor environment, then he should be on an avoidance plan that reduces his exposure to the point that he does not need the histamine receptor!. For example, if he is allergic to tree pollen, then during tree pollen season (spring) he takes the loratadine as long as the pollen is present!. If his allergies are something like dust mite, then his room should be set up as a dust proof room (see the link) and his sheets washed with De-Mite to reduce his exposure (see the link)!. If he is following his allergen reduction plan, then he wouldn't need the histamine receptor unless he has an exposure that leads to symptoms!. Maybe you and his allergist need to sit down and chat so that you understand exactly what is going on with your son!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like the claritin is working well so why would you need to stop!?
I took claritin daily from the time I was 6-8 years old for hives and I had no adverse reactions to the claritin!. I did however realize it just wasn't cutting it and had to switch to zyrtec!.
If you are uncomfortable giving the claritin, start by cutting back his daily dosage!. For example, instead of one 10mg tablet, cut it in half and give 5mg daily for a week or so and then cut that back to 5mg every other day if there are no symptoms present!.
If you have any questions, call any pharmacy and speak with a pharmacist!. They are always willing to give you the best advice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If he's been taking Clartin THAT long, how do you even know he needs it!. Claritin isn't something you take for preventative treatment!. You're suppose to take it when symptoms occur!. Kids also out grow allergies so even if he had symptoms when he started taking Claritin two years ago that doesn't mean he still has them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's safe to take for long periods of time!. If your kid does not need it, you can stop the loratadine and see how he does without it!. If the allergies return your can re-start the medicine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i took claritin for i think 3 years non stop and had no reactions the only reason i stopped it is beacause it wasnt working any more so i started zyrtec!. but if you think he doesnt need ask your doctor!!!!!
