Nope!. Whenever your airways swell (even a little) and breathing becomes difficult you're having an asthma attack (if you've been diagnosed with asthma, that is)!. You don't have to wheeze!. All asthma sufferers can have different symptoms, and there are varying degrees of severity of an attack!.

No u dont have to wheezing for it to be asthma!. asthma is basically narrowing of the airways to the lungs, so sometimes you hear a wheezy noise, sometimes you feel short of breath or tight in the chest area, u may also cough!. these symptoms dont all have to be present!.!. The main symptoms of an attack are shortness of breath and maybe wheezing!. some people present mainly with coughing, and in the late stages of an attack, air motion may be so impaired that no wheezing may be heardWww@Answer-Health@Com

no!. There are 4 symptoms of an asthma flare!.!.you can have any combo or any single symptom!.
1!. Cough (which is the most common symptom of asthma)
2!. wheeze (while the stereotypical symptom this is not the most common symptom associated with asthma)
3!. chest tightness
4!. trouble breathing

I have had asthma since infancy, my oldest son had his first asthma flare at 6 days of age, my youngest son at 2 mths, my dd at 7 yrs and my grandson at around 4 mths!.!.and non of us except my grandson have ever wheezed!.!.!.we cough and cough and gag until we are dry heaving!.!.!.and have excessive mucus and chest tightness!.!.!.but no wheeze!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
