Why would a sterling silver ring irritate my skin?!

Question: Why would a sterling silver ring irritate my skin!?
Nomally I can just keep a ring like that on for as long as I want with no problem but recently I wore one and became very itchy underneath, and red!. The ring is textured, not smooth, though, and wondered if something got lodged in the little ridges inside of it, but couldn't really tell!. Anyone else have something like that happen!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, sterling silver is not actually 100% silver!. Just like gold, pure silver is too soft for jewelry, so it is alloyed with other metals!. In the case of sterling silver, your piece is 92!.5% silver, and the rest is copper or zinc!. It is possible what you have is not actually sterling silver either!. There are unscrupulous jewelers and makers out there who will use the mark, but the jewelry itself is not actually sterling silver!. What you may have is a piece that is plated over nickel or brass- and if you have a nickel sensitivity- that might account for your reaction!. With a textured piece, it may be the plate was thin in some spots or has worn off where you can't see it- or was never there to begin with!. Inside it would be difficult to say!. You can take it to a reputable jeweler and have it tested to see!. If it is really true sterling, then a coat of clear nail polish is the usual remedy!. It's cheap enough, it works, and it's easy to recoat periodically!. First, I'd have it checked though!. If you paid for sterling silver, then that's what you should have!. If not, you have an issue with the seller!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it's good quality sterling, it shouldn't bother you!. If it does, try applying a couplecoats of some good clear nail polish around the inside!. Worked for my Mom!Www@Answer-Health@Com
