Hey Bell!. I actually just posted a question related to having Crohn's!. I am just about 21, diagnosed when I was 11!. From what I've heard, my condition seems to be a less severe one!. When I was first diagnosed, things were pretty bad!. I was put on Prednisone many times, which worked wonders!. It had nasty side-effects, but it did the job!.

There were many nights I would wake up to vomit or just laid in bed with severe stomach pain!. I had to learn how my body reacted to different kinds of foods and situations!. Finally, in my Junior year of high school (about 17), I was put on Remicade!. This drug has worked WONDERS!. It is an IV treatment that I started receiving at 6-week intervals, then they were pushed to 8 weeks!. I am doing so well now (knock on wood), that my doctor has pushed me to 10-week intervals!.

Although I do not seem to have a condition as bad as your brother (never really in and out of the hospital, but I have had a few emergency room visits), I recommend he talks to his doctor about this medication!. It really has seemed to work wonders for myself and many other people with this disease!.

Another small suggestion: I workout almost daily!. I have found this to be very therapeutic, as it is a great way to relieve stress and feel good about yourself!. Of course if your brother can't get off the couch, this could be a problem, but if he ever has a stretch of time he is feeling well, I'd suggest exercise!. I read a local article (Boston area) about how a man with Crohn's opened his own gym or is a personal trainer (I forget which) and how it's helped him deal with Crohn's in a much better way!.

Lastly, let me suggest smoking marijuana!. It is one of the diseases CA has legalized marijuana use for!. I smoke a few times a week, and although I am not currently in a flare-up, it can reduce pain and will make your brother want to eat (I assume his appetite is very low)!.

Anyways, hope I helped!. Wish him luck for me!

EDIT: I just realized you said your brother is on Morphine and has been for 2 months!. I understand how bad the pain can be, but Morphine will not help the condition of his Crohn's!. If his doctor is not perscribing the appropriate medication, your brother needs to seek a new doctor (a gastroenterologist)!. These doctors specialize in the GI track and are experts on diseases such as Crohn's!. I know if this was my doctor, your brother would probably be feeling much better by now!. I'm very surprised he isn't on high-dose prednisone right now and would recommend he should be!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

my friend had it years ago and doc said it was indigestion - he went private and within 2 days was in getting part of the bowel removed!. Your brother should go to another doctor and tell them he wants something done as it can be cured, maybe a bowel bag might be needed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

One of the reasons he's having so many blockages is because of the morphine and the fact that he lays on the couch all day IMO!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi there, i have 2 family members with crohns

I am surprised why he is being given MORPHINE !?!?!?!? he should be on steroids or other anti-inflamatory medicine!.

if he is bleeding and passing mucus in his stools, pls please tell him to go to A&E immediately
crohns is condition when the large intestine or parts of the large intestine (and in some cases parts of the small intestine too) swell up, get ulcers in them and bleed!. also the patient is unable to absorb nutrients from the food that the patient eats - leading to weight loss and weakness!. patients suffer from pain in abdomen, bleeding and mucus in stools and mood swings, weakness

it is a terrible condition, and the only way to get through it is strength, positivity and support from family!.

you + all his family and friends need to support him, understand his condition and understand that this is a incurable and cronic disease!.

read more about crohns here:
http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Crohns

also a very informative site
http://www!.crohns!.org!.uk/

the issue is that no one knows WHAT causes it and it is incurable!. so all you can do is get rid of the inflammation with help of strong medication prescribed by expert gastroentrologists, and then maintain the intestine in that condition - and avoid a relapse!.

both my family member have a normal life when their medicine has had an affect and swelling has gone down!. your brother must be going through a relapse so he is in pain and cannot move etc!.

he must see a doctor IMMEDIATELY!. even if you have to spend money and go private - DO IT !! it is a very important issue!.

if left untreated and if the intestines get really bad they may have to do an operation and remove part of the gut - which is something he definitely wants to avoidWww@Answer-Health@Com
