my 19 month old was diagnosed with hfmd a few days after he stayed with his nana for about 3 days!. i read it is contagious but adults usually dont show signs i was wondering how long they can have it before it goes away!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes adults can certainly be carriers and are more likely to be because they seldom show symptoms!. The virus is spread by saliva and nose & throat secretions, to name a few, and is most often spread by those who don't wash their hands!. Have grandma see her doctor!. The coxsackievirus may remain for weeks after symptoms disappear and your 19-month-old could still be contagious but on average, 7 days!. Be sure to speak to your doctor!. She/he may tell you differently so follow that advice!. Your child was more vulnerable because he just didn't have the antibodies to fight it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
if the adult is immunosuppressed they can carry it too!. It is usually gone in 3-4 days with 10 days being most!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
