Armour Thyroid - sublingual?!

Question: Armour Thyroid - sublingual!?
I read that taking armour thyroid is much more effective if taken sublingually!. I tried putting the pill under my tongue but it barely dissolved in an hour!. Do you need a specific type to take it sublingually!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Some medications are intentionally designed to be given sublingually, because the blood vessels under the tongue allow medications to enter circulation ("get into the system") faster!. Nitroglycerin (a medication for angina) takes advantage of this property of sublingual administration!.

Other advantages of sublingual administration include:
- bypassing the stomach: some drugs are inactivated by stomach acid
- bypassing the liver: drugs taken orally will be absorbed through the gut, but then need to pass through the liver before getting into circulation (to the rest of the body); for some drugs, this means a substantial portion will be inactivated before the drugs have a chance to work (this is called "first-pass metabolism")

However, for sublingual administration to work well, the drug must dissolve easily (or be in a liquid form to start with), and be able to travel through tissue easily via diffusion!.

If your Armour Thyroid pill is taking longer than an hour to dissolve, it is NOT properly designed for sublingual administration -- check with the doctor who prescribed it!. My guess is that you will be better off taking it orally (ie!. swallow it)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
