Crohn's - enzymes?!

Question: Crohn's - enzymes!?
I just got a call from my doctor's office and I don't understand what they told me!. I have had Crohn's disease for about 17 years, and they just did a colonoscopy on me!. They found that in the two years since I've been on a new medication, there has been no improvement in my colon!. So they did a blood test on me and told me they were checking for some type of rare enzyme problem that might tell us why the meds aren't working!. I just heard back from the doc and they said I'm at the "high end of the carrier level"!. What does that mean!?!? Also, they want to be testing me regularly for CBC and liver enzymes - they said whatever it is is rare!. Can anyone help me understand this cryptic doctor-speak!!?!!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

hi kim, i am a female corhn's pt!. like yourself!. I understand what you are talking about!.

If you go to the Crohn's & Colitis foundation of america's site, they have a live chat, a hotline, and a forum that is run by healthcare professionals where you can pitch your question!.

Your CBC and liver enzymes test is normal if you are on an immunosuppressant like 6MP, Imuran, methotrexate etc!. The GI wants to make sure your liver or pancreas won't go toxic!. I've been there and when my liver enzymes went up, my GI had me stop the med, and retry at a lower dose after a week!. Things went back to normal after!.

My heart goes out to you as I can relate when your colon is still inflamed!. Feel free to email me if you have questions!.

wishing you a speedy remission!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
