Answers:
Sorry lady but I work 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, with people who have dementia and Alzheimers!. 61 is young!. I am so sorry!. There is not an 'outlook' but if you can find a good home with caring people then you can't really ask for much more!. Alzheimers can last for years, so be prepared!. Find a good home, and check out the staff!. I work in SE England, and I work my butt off to take very good care of Alzheimers patients!. I wash them, dress them, feed them, and do activities with them, and love them !.!.!. Alzheimers does not discriminate!. You can work in a factory, you can teach at a university, it can attack you!. The care you get is so important!. I work for Shaw Healthcare, who have homes all over the country, so check them out on the Net for further information!. Good luck and bless you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What medication is she on and what does her doctor say!? You'll get much better answers from him/her than from us!. This is just a bunch of people, some better informed than others!. I knew of a woman diagnosed with Alzheimers at the age of 48, so your friend's wife at age 61 is probably typical!. You might want to look this link over, though, as it does contain more specific information:

Rapidly progressive dementia sounds more like Lewy body dementia(associated with Parkinsons)!.
This has a short severe course!.
The diagnoses you mentioned have a longer duration of decline!.
Vascular can get worse with more strokes, Alzheimers slowlyWww@Answer-Health@Com

So sorry!. It's a very difficult thing to watch!. As far as timeframe, everyone's different!. She might get to a point where her mind is gone and continue to live for years!. Very sad!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
