Firslty 5mg is one of the lowest doses available so no need to worry - from details given I would assume your GP has prescribed one for every four hours of the flight, I would suggest taking one 3 hours before departure time, one whilst boarding and the other four hours in!. You are presumably (given the question) a naive user so do not 'double up' - the levels prescribed should mean the side effects are not pronounced and 'knock the edge off' of the situation!. Benzodiazapines are a central nervous system (CNS) depressant incidently!.

Six tablets for each flight is a bit excessive if you have not taken them before!. If you find they havent worked on the initial flight you could think about taking half a tablet extra on return, on each occasion!.

Do not expect to fall asleep, this will not/should not happen, in theory you will be 'more relaxed'!. Being an naive user you should not mix with alcohol as that is also a CNS depressant (you shouldn't mix anyway but your body will not be used to this 'new' drug)!.

After the first long flight you may find the return flight 'easier' anyway as 'flight fear' is fairly well documented to be overcome, at least to some degree, with a long flight!.

Benzodiazepines are addictive as others have said, usually you are only prescribed with a fortnights dose for that reason so the sooner you can fly with none the better!.

For info benzodiazepines in the UK carry the warning 'Do not drive or operate heavy machinery whilst taking' - worth knowing if you are driving to the airport as technically its an offence!.

Last thing, upon your return if your are subject to drug testing in your place of employment tell your HR department when reporting back to work incase you are tested 'randomly'!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ok, first you need to know that for importing controlled substances for personal medical use into the US, you need to keep the drug in its original container and you must make a declaration to the US Customs that you have the drug for personal use only and the name/address of the pharmacy and doctor who prescribed it!. Here is the relevant information: http://www!.deadiversion!.usdoj!.gov/21cfr/!.!.!.

I wouldn't take all the tablets at once either, please follow your doctor's advice and only take them at the specified intervals!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

10 mg puts me to sleep in about 15 mins and when I wake up I still feel sleepy!.
I would advise you to stick to the doctors dose!.

You could face two problems!.
The effects of diazepam give people the impression you are drunk, slurred speech, unsteady on feet etc!. You could find you were denied permission to board the aircraft!.

Secondly, if there was any sort of emergency your reactions would be very much slower that normal!.
Stick to the suggested dose and you will be relaxed which is what you want!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

DO NOT TAKE THEM ALL AT ONCE!.!.!. they act as a sedative which will calm your nerves!.!.!.!.dont drink either as it can have a detrimental effect!.!.!.there is nothing I can say to calm your nerves!.!.!.!.but there really is nothing to worry about!.!.!.far more likely to have an accident driving to the airport!.!.!.take a good book or ipod to distract your thoughts!.!.!.there are films to watch and you will enjoy it!.!.!.!.on the way back, because of the time difference you will be knackered anyway and will probably sleep!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You doctor just handed you 12 tabs of Valium and didnt give really explicit instructions!? I've been a medication nurse on a psychiatric unit for 33 years and Valium is overkill to say the least!. Valium (diazepam) is in a family of drugs called benzodiazapines!. They are all highly addictive and highly dangerous in the wrong hands!. If you have never taken this kind of anti-anxiety drug before, 30mg (6 tabs) could kill you or get you really close!. If you added alcohol to the mix it would almost certainly kill you!. I'm almost positive the doctor doesnt want you to overdose, but I seriously question giving you a handful of this medication!. I am anxious about travelling on a plane, but have never had to resort to taking a major tranquilizer to calm my nerves!. If you were already in the US-I'd have that doctor brought up before the AMA!. How about this!? Take just one Valium 5mg while you're at home, way before the day you'll be flying!. See how just one affects you!. If it does what I think it will do-you'll understand how strong they are!. You could break one in half and take it before you take off and the other half if you need it during the flight!. I'd still like to have a talk with that doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
