Answers:
If removing the thyroid gland will resolve your problem, then that is the obvious pro!. Cons to doing so might be possible scarring, decreased calcium and the need to take calcium supplements after!. When the thyroid glands are removed, the parathyroids are also removed because they are embedded within the thyroid!. The parathyroids help regulate calcium!. Without them, people often need to take additional calcium supplements!. Another con is that you will need to take thyroid hormones from then on!. A lot to consider, but discuss the pros and cons with your doctor and make a decision together!. The cons really aren't that bad compared to the symptoms of Grave's disease!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

A subtotal Thyroidectomy leaves behind some thyroid tissue so hormone replacement is not required!. If for any reason they decide to remove whole thyroid gland (total thyroidectomy) life long need for thyroid hormone replacement therapy will be there!. It depends on the indication!. If medicines don't help and you don't want radiation, you have no other option left!.

I am a Thyroid Cancer survivor!. I had my thyroid removed almost 2 years ago!. I never feel good and my levels are always off!.Your Thyroid is a master gland in the body, if you can save it,I would!.My life has been awful since!. If you do have it done, make sure you have a qualified surgeon!. There is a 1 percent chance of losing some of the parathyroids during surgery,it happened to me and I have alot of problemsWww@Answer-Health@Com

I would do a lot of research on this, as I have heard many women say they wish they never had it done!. I suggest you join a support forum and ask those that had it done their experience!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
