Is being on a ventilator a form of life support?!

Question: Is being on a ventilator a form of life support!?
Answers:
Yes it is!. I was on one for about 2!.5 weeks last year when I went into septic shock!. It was really a precautionary measure!. Most of the time they could see from the rates on the machine that I was breathing on my own, but there were times when the machine had to take over and breath for me!. I was sedated and hallucinting the whole time so I dont remember!. THey woke me up at one point to run a couple of tests that I had to be awake for, but I dont remember!. You also have to be awake for them to pull the tubes out, but I dont remember that either!.

As other mentioned, there are situations where someone would be on one awake for other reasons!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is if it's keeping you alive!. sometimes people are put on there to fight serious lung disease, but they're conscious!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you have to be on the ventilator to live then yes (consious or not)! Some people may use one to help clean out lungs!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Pretty much!. Being on a ventilator helps keep you alive and is basically a machine that is breathing for you!. Someone that is on a ventilator can come off of it when they get better, however!. I believe someone that is on life support is about to die, and the family is waiting to say goodbye, and they want to spend some time with their loved one before pulling the plug!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

sorry to be frank, but it sounds like if you wouldn't have had it, you would have died, so yes, it is a form of life supportWww@Answer-Health@Com
