Clostridium tetane is an organism that loves to infect deep cuts and puncture wounds. If you should be so unlucky as to be unvaccinated and contract this bug, you are in for a world of hurt.
The toxin released by this bacteria causes the muscles to painfully constrict starting with the jaw (thus the name, lock-jaw). Finally, if untreated, you will lose the ability to breathe and, well....you know.
If you have been vaccinated, you shouldnt worry. Do, however, clean all injuries thoroughly with soap and water.

probably not but call the doctor and ask. If you just call and ask it probably won't cost anything.

Probably not. Definitely not if you had a tetanus shot recently.

The bacteria that causes tetanus is an anaerobe, it grows best in deeper puncture wounds, not "slices."

If you had the shot, then you definitely should be protected from tetanus.

If you had the shot I am almost positive you won't get it, if you are unsure you can call your doctors office and they can give you the records of your shots. Good Luck!

If you did get a tetanus shot then no you won't get tetanus, they are good for about 5-10 yrs. you usually need a booster every 5-10 yrs. If it was not a tetanus shot then yes you can get tetanus and will probably die, please find out whether you received a tetanus shot or not. Tetanus is not curable thats why you have to get a vaccine before you are infected.

If you got a tetanus booster a couple weeks ago, you should have some protection. Tetanus spores live in the dirt and the most dangerous types of injuries for getting infected with it are puncture wounds. The tetanus bacteria itself isn't what makes you sick, but rather the toxins produced by the bacteria that cause tetany - spasms of the muscles.

Just make sure you cleaned the wound well and keep it covered. You should be ok.

just call and make sure you had the shot, if not you need to go in and get it.
